New Logo Unveiled

The Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society (DBA Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden) is pleased to unveil a new logomark and website for Crystal Springs.

Developed over a year with award-winning local design consultancy sparks+sullivan, the new logomark is inspired by characteristics of the garden that make it a unique and treasured sanctuary of tranquil beauty for the wellbeing of all.

The centerpiece of the brand crest is a cluster of rhododendron blooms, including the flower’s stamen and two evergreen leaves. The truss hovers over water, which celebrates the unique namesake of the garden: the crystal springs and crystal springs lake.

The brand colors are directly inspired from rhododendrons and their signature colors that can be seen throughout the year: evergreen leaves, ‘Cynthia’ magenta, and occidentale pale yellow. Rhododendron ‘Cynthia’ was one of the first rhododendrons planted in the garden and the large specimens located near the meadow were donated by the Parks Director at the time of the garden’s founding, representing the long-term partnership between the Portland Chapter ARS and the City of Portland’s Parks and Recreation Bureau. Rhododendron occidentale (Western Azalea) is one of our Oregon native rhododendrons.

An updated website was rolled out in September and the new logomark and branding will be implemented in the garden itself over the next year.

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden inspires joy, curiosity, and replenishment within a peaceful woodland garden. It serves as a sanctuary of tranquil beauty for the wellbeing of all. Established as a joint ventured between the American Rhododendron Society and the Portland Parks Bureau in 1950, thew garden was the first public rhododendron garden in the United States. It’s 9.5 acres included over 2,500 rhododendron and azalea shrubs, as well as interesting companion plants, trees, and pristine springs, streams, and waterfalls that attract interesting wildlife to this urban green space.
