Body Awareness in Contemporary Movement

Contemporary Movement with Bree
$20 per person*, 90 minutes
Registration Required

Take this as your sign to involve yourself in a new movement practice this summer. A contemporary movement class promoting integration of the body and mind within the thoughtfulness of the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens; for those who want to expand their relationship with momentum, weight, and strength while being surrounded by the beauty of the gardens and held by a vast open air setting, this class is for you.

All levels of dance experience, strength, flexibility, and mobility are welcome. Beginning practitioners and movement artists are encouraged to attend! Alongside an exploration of breath and experience within the torso, this class will pass through the 4 basic postures, sensory inspired imagery and movement, and some basic phrase work.

Giving ourselves time to actively acknowledge various pieces of our body, each joint, each nerve, each thought; we can then coordinate their work together as an integrated whole to progress our balance, coordination, alignment, recovery, and ultimately our sense of self. This class will appreciate how subtle attunements of the body and the imaginarium can inform the grandest of gestures, making any intense physicality sustainable and playful. I am excited to dance with you! See you soon.

Instructor Bio:

Bryaunna (Bree) Kostelnik is a professional contemporary dancer and instructor

An Oregon native, Bree began studying dance at the age of 8 and has spent the past 10 years working as a creative director, mentor, and teacher.

Having been held by the natural beauty and power of the Pacific Northwest throughout their childhood, their movement and teachings channel the boundless freedom, innate strength, and grounding breath their young self found amongst the roots of Redwoods, waves along the Oregon Coast, and towering peaks of the Siskiyous.

Currently, Kostelnik continues their professional work with OPENSPACE as company artist for their 2023-2024 season. They are deeply grateful for the collaborative efforts that went into making these workshops possible.

Let’s move!
